Mason Marks

Mason Marks is a joint Research Fellow at Cornell Tech’s Digital Life Initiative and NYU Law School’s Information Law Institute. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Yale Law School’s Information Society Project. Mason conducts research on health law, data privacy, and intellectual property. He is interested in the application of artificial intelligence to clinical decision-making in medicine, how emerging technologies such as big data and machine learning disrupt traditional flows of health information, and how EU and US privacy laws affect the collection and processing of consumer health data. Mason received his J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School. He is a member of the California Bar, and he practiced intellectual property law in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to law school, he received his M.D. from Tufts University and his B.A. in Biology from Amherst College. Mason frequently presents at legal conferences, and he has been invited to speak at Yale Law School, Yale Medical School, Harvard Law School, Harvard Medical School, Seton Hall Law School, and the Yale Whitney Humanities Center. His technology writing has been featured in Wired, STAT, and the NYU Journal of Legislation and Public Policy. Mason is a regulator contributor to Harvard Law School’s Bill of Health, an online publication of the PetrieFlom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics. In 2018, he led a reading group for Yale law students called Regulating the Future of Medicine.
